How MC Seed View Works

MC Seed View runs entirely in your web browser using cubiomes, an open-source C library that replicates Minecraft's world generation algorithms. We compile cubiomes to WebAssembly using Emscripten, which lets the same biome and structure calculations Minecraft uses internally run at near-native speed inside any modern browser. There is no proxy, no upload, no server-side rendering — only your browser and the math.

Why Browser-Side Calculation?

Most online seed map tools either ask you to upload your seed to a server or send queries back to a backend for every map tile. MC Seed View takes a different approach: every calculation happens locally in your browser. This design has four practical benefits:

Privacy — Your seed value never leaves your device. We physically cannot collect or sell what we never receive.
Speed — No network round-trips per zoom or pan. The map redraws in tens of milliseconds even at high zoom levels.
Offline support — Once the page is loaded, MC Seed View works without an internet connection thanks to PWA service worker caching.
No rate limits — Browse as many seeds as you want, as fast as you want. There is no backend quota to exhaust.

How Accurate Is the Map?

MC Seed View uses the same biome and structure generation algorithms as Minecraft Java Edition. For supported versions (1.0 through 1.21.x), structure positions and biome boundaries are 100% accurate. Bedrock Edition support is included for structures, with biome accuracy continually improving as the cubiomes library evolves. Decorations such as trees, ore veins, and tall grass are not predicted — those depend on chunk-level random generation that varies with player actions and cannot be computed without running the chunk itself.

The structure finder supports more than 20 Minecraft structures, including villages, strongholds, woodland mansions, ocean monuments, ancient cities, trial chambers, bastion remnants, end cities, nether fortresses, desert and jungle temples, igloos, mineshafts, ruined portals, ocean ruins, shipwrecks, witch huts, pillager outposts, trail ruins, and buried treasure. Each structure type can be toggled independently, and clicking any icon on the map gives you exact coordinates and a ready-to-use /tp command you can paste straight into Minecraft.

Does MC Seed View work on mobile?

Yes. MC Seed View is fully mobile-friendly and works in any modern smartphone or tablet browser. Drag with one finger to pan, pinch to zoom, and long-press to drop a pin. You can also install MC Seed View as a Progressive Web App (PWA) from your browser's "Add to Home Screen" menu for a native-app-like experience with offline support.

Why does my actual world look slightly different from the map?

The map shows biome and structure positions, which are 100% deterministic from the seed. However, decorations such as tree placement, ore vein positions, tall grass, and animal spawns depend on per-chunk random generation that varies with how chunks are first loaded by the player. This is normal and applies to every seed map tool. Major terrain features (mountains, rivers, oceans, biome boundaries) and all structure positions remain identical to your actual world.

How do I find a Stronghold (and the End Portal)?

Enable the Stronghold layer under Structure Finders, then zoom out until you see the stronghold ring closest to spawn. Minecraft Java Edition (1.9 and later) generates 128 Strongholds across eight concentric rings around the world origin (0,0). Click any stronghold icon to get its starting coordinates and a /tp command. The icon marks the structure's start chunk; once you teleport there, the End Portal room is usually within the surrounding stronghold complex — follow the corridors downward until you find the portal frame. Eyes of Ender are still recommended for the final approach.

What is the difference between Java and Bedrock seeds?

Java Edition and Bedrock Edition use entirely different world generation algorithms, so the same seed number will produce completely different worlds in the two editions. MC Seed View provides separate version selectors for each — pick the matching edition before exploring a seed. Java Edition support is the most accurate (covering 1.0 through 1.21.x); Bedrock support focuses on structure positioning, with biome accuracy continually improving.

Can I save my favorite seeds for later?

Yes. Click the heart icon next to any seed to add it to your Favorites list, accessible from the top navigation bar. Your favorites are stored locally in your browser and persist across sessions on the same device. You can also export your favorites as a JSON file from the History panel and import them on another device.
