What Are Strongholds?

Strongholds are large underground structures in Minecraft that contain the End Portal — the gateway to The End dimension where you fight the Ender Dragon. Each world has exactly 128 strongholds arranged in concentric rings around the world origin (0, 0).

Stronghold Ring Structure

• Ring 1: 3 strongholds between 1,280-2,816 blocks from origin
• Ring 2: 6 strongholds between 4,352-5,888 blocks from origin
• Ring 3: 10 strongholds between 7,424-8,960 blocks from origin
• Rings 4-8: Additional rings with increasing numbers up to 128 total

Finding Strongholds In-Game

• Eyes of Ender: Throw an Eye of Ender in the air — it will fly toward the nearest stronghold
• Triangulation: Throw Eyes from two different locations and follow where the paths intersect
• /locate command: In Java Edition, use /locate structure stronghold

Inside the Stronghold

• End Portal: A 3×3 frame of End Portal Frames — place Eyes of Ender to activate
• Libraries: Two-story rooms with bookshelves, containing enchanted books and rare loot
• Silverfish Spawner: Near the portal room — watch out for silverfish blocks
• Storerooms: Chests with iron, gold, ender pearls, and sometimes diamond gear

Tips for Beating the Stronghold

• Bring at least 12 Eyes of Ender — some portal frames may already have eyes
• Watch for silverfish that emerge from infested stone blocks when broken
• The portal room is always below Y=35, so dig down if you can't find it through corridors
• Use this tool to find the nearest stronghold before gathering resources

About This Tool

This Stronghold Finder uses the cubiomes library — the same algorithm as Minecraft Java Edition — to calculate all 128 stronghold positions. Results are 100% accurate for Java Edition. Bedrock Edition uses a different placement algorithm, so results may differ.

The tool runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your seed is never sent to any server.
