💎 Minecraft Buried Treasure Guide

Buried Treasure chests are hidden underground on beaches and stony shores. They contain the Heart of the Sea — required to craft the Conduit — and are the primary source of the Aqua Affinity and Respiration enchantments. Here is everything you need to locate them.

What is Buried Treasure?

Buried Treasure is a single chest generated underground beneath beach and stony shore biomes. Every chunk in these biomes has a chance to contain one, always at chunk position 9,9 (block offset 9 within the chunk — not the geometric center). They are buried under sand, gravel, or stone — rarely on the surface.

The Treasure Map Method

Shipwrecks contain map chests that hold Buried Treasure Maps. The map shows a red X marking the chest location. Navigate to the X and dig down — the chest is usually 1–5 blocks below the surface. Note: treasure maps only point to a single specific chest, not all chests.

Spawn Rules: Where Exactly Do They Generate?

Buried Treasure always generates at X=chunkX*16+9, Z=chunkZ*16+9 within beach and stony shore biomes. The Y coordinate varies: on sand beaches it is usually Y=0 to Y=5 below the surface. On stony shores it may be deeper. Occasionally a chest generates at sea level with no coverage.

The most important item is the Heart of the Sea (always present, one per chest), required to craft a Conduit. Other guaranteed drops include iron ingots, cooked fish, and TNT. Common drops include iron/gold/diamond armor pieces, emeralds, and prismarine crystals.
